It’s no secret by now that I love the mystery and surprises of Purim. The costumes, masks, partying…they all appeal to me. And although I love entertaining, I demand an easy menu. It is one of my key philosophies that great entertaining looks effortless. There is nothing more off-putting in a party than when the hostess is a slave in the kitchen, unable to entertain her guests because she still has so much to do. This meat menu and decor for a Purim seudah, combines both…a dramatic and mysterious decor with a menu that can be prepared ahead of time.

And now a dramatic decor to have fun with. Layer blacks and other dark colors for a dramatic table, letting the candlelight and lanterns be your only lighting source. Thrift candleholders or save bottles for a striking centerpiece. Invite only enough that can sit at the table (meaning don’t buffet this look) so your atmosphere can permeate the event. Masks and costumes are a must as is collecting tzedakah for your favorite charity. Thrift or rent a crazy chair for a fun photo booth corner to capture memories.
